MACL alumna (2006); Ph.D Simon Fraser University; Instructor, School of Communications, Simon Fraser University; former Program Manager, The British Columbia Literacy Now Communities Program (Family Literacy Program); former adjunct faculty at the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies

I think this degree, more so than my other MA and PhD, had some very useful outcomes.

I think this degree was uniquely practical in addition to being uniquely academic.
Here’s what I walked away with: how to teach writing skills; an understanding of the publishing industry; how to get published; theory in children’s literature; how to teach children’s literature; how to publish academic work in children’s literature; a passion for children’s literature; background in family literacy; how to teach about family literacy; how to support people working in family literacy (my current employment although I continue to pursue work in the areas above); how to advocate for children’s literature and family literacy; a professional network in children’s writing, children’s literature and family literacy.
