Program Duration and Fees

The MACL program typically takes between two and three years to complete. On-campus students register for courses starting in the T1 session (September-April) of the year when they begin their studies.

Students pay the continuing registration fee until they have completed their program (coursework plus thesis) and must remain continuously registered until the degree is completed.

Failure to register for two consecutive terms may result in the student being required to withdraw from the School. The exception is those periods of time for which the student may request a leave of absence: all leaves must be approved by the chair and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. See the Leaves of Absence section for further details.

Fees

Students are assessed according to Schedule A. For more information, see Student Classification section of the UBC Calendar and the Fees section of the UBC Calendar.

Part-time Classification

For a Part-time classification, students must obtain approval from the Chair, iSchool’s Graduate Advisor and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies prior to the beginning of the first term of the program (i.e prior to the commencement of the degree program) in which fees are assessed).

For the part time fee structure, students are assessed according to Schedule B, which can be found at: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/forms/masters-degree-tuition-fee-application-payment-schedule-b.

International Students

Due to Canadian immigration regulations, part-time study has particular implications for international students. International students should seek advice from a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant before pursuing part-time classification.
